Johnny Depp’s partner inspired by B-Town

She loves saris and Indian food. But Bollywood is what actually impresses French singer-actor Vanessa Paradis, who is better known as Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp’s partner. Ask her what she likes best and she says, “Honestly speaking, dance and music is something we don’t possess. Plus, the
cinema is beautiful.”

And now, interestingly, Vanessa’s love for Bollywood seems to have made its way into her forthcoming film, Heartbreaker. “We have somehow incorporated both the elements — music and dance — in the film,” she says.

Though aware of the fact that many Indian actors have worked in Hollywood films in the recent past, Vanessa finds it hard when asked to recall any names: “It’s difficult. But Slumdog Millionaire (2008) was a great film.”

Besides dance sequences, saris too rank high on Vanessa’s Indian wish list. “Indian women look really elegant and sexy in it,” says The Girl On The Bridge (1999) actor, who is looking forward to visit India soon. “I don’t really plan to make plans. If I ever come, I will just pack my bags and leave. India’s a really beautiful place.”

Vanessa plays the part of Juliette in Pascal Chaumeil’s rom-com Heartbreaker that is due to release on January 13. “The script made me laugh; I was instantly charmed. Usually, I’m more drawn to dramatic scenarios, but I liked Pascal’s vision, and the idea of Romain (co-star Romain Duris) playing Alex, which was unexpected, as he doesn’t usually act in this genre,” says Vanessa, who underwent an ultra glam makeover for this role. “The director and I thought about the glamour of Hollywood film stars from the ’40s and ’50s. So I wear a lot of high heels to give me a very feminine look,” says Vanessa, who has been in a relationship with Johnny since 1998.

The couple have a daughter, Lily-Rose Melody, and a son — John Christopher “Jack” Depp III.
