Court relief for Salman Khan in hit-and-run case

Mumbai court on Thursday exempted Bollywood superstar Salman Khan from appearing before it in connection to the hearing on a petition that accused the actor of delaying the trial in the 2002 hit-and-run case

The Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court will hear the case next on Jan 30. Khan's sisters, Alvira and Arpita, and lawyer Dipesh Mehta on Thursday filed a petition that sought his exemption from appearing before the court.

'The summon has been served and I am waiting for the court to call me. We have been with the law and done what the law required us to do,' Khan told media.

Lawyer-activist Abha Singh earlier this month moved an application before the court alleging that Khan was delaying trial in the case. The court then issued summons to the actor.
