Asha Bhosle’s daughter Varsha commits suicide

Asha Bhosle’s daughter Varsha Bhosle committed suicide at her residence in Mumbai today. She shot herself to death at Mumbai's Peddar road-based residence Prabhu Kunj. She was a divorcee. She shot on her head and it is not yet known from where she has got the weapon.

Varsha Bhosale, daughter of legendary singer Asha Bhosale, was admitted to Jaslok Hospital early on Tuesday morning, after suffering an adverse reaction to a possible overdose of medicines she had taken the night before.

Varsha, 51, is now recuperating in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, and is under medical observation. Only on Monday, Asha Bhosale had celebrated her 75th birthday.

Around 2 am on Tuesday, Varsha was rushed to Jaslok after her maidservant found her in an unconscious state. Varsha lives in the same building as her mother, Prabhu Kunj on Peddar Road, where both the singing sisters, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale reside.

Sources close to the family revealed that Varsha was unhappy due to a property dispute within the family, and that she could have taken an overdose of sleeping pills. However, when contacted, family members declined to speak about the incident.

Col. Manesh Masand, CEO of Jaslok Hospital, said, “Varsha was admitted to our hospital early morning. Her condition is quite serious. She is recuperating in the ICU, and our doctors are observing her round the clock.” Jaslok Hospital authorities informed the Gamdevi police immediately after admitting her.

Later in the day, Asha Bhosale and Hridyanath Mangeshkar visited the hospital to check on Varsha’s condition. Varsha is semi-conscious, and is still not speaking. Dr G D Sunavala, the intensivist who is treating Varsha, refused to comment.

The second of Asha’s three children, Varsha is a freelance writer and columnist, known for her fiery right wing writing for a web portal and several publications.
